| 7. Easy Depth Of Field Effect |
by photoshopessentials

 |
In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial, we're going to look at an easy way to adjust the depth of field in a photo, keeping only a small portion of the image in focus while taking the rest of it out of focus. This is a great way to bring attention to a specific part of an image (someone's face, for example), and the effect is similar to how things would look if we had shot the photo with a wide aperture. For best results, we'll be using Photoshop's Lens Blur filter to create this effect, which is available in Photoshop CS and later, which means you'll need at least Photoshop CS to follow along with this tutorial. If you're using Photoshop 7 or earlier, you can still achieve good results with Photoshop's classic Gaussian Blur filter, but the Lens Blur filter is the filter of choice for this effect because it tries to mimic how an actual camera lens works, whereas the Gaussian Blur filter simply blurs everything out.

| 9. The effect of Tilt-shift camera lens |
by newphotoguide

 |
The next lesson is about how is it possible to get the effect of Tilt-shift camera lens to your photos. When a picture is made with the effect mentioned above, the foreground and the background get lost, but the only sharpening element remaining is a thin picture’s line which is strictly perpendicularly on the camera lens. Having such camera lens, the effect is even more interesting if changing the depth of field (DOF). It means that you may get sharpening details, situated on the foreground, but also the elements that are seen on the horizon. But everything else will get blur.

| 45. Creating Photo Borders With Displacement Maps |
by photoshopessentials
(85 tutorials) |
| Feb-17-2008 |
 |
In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial, we're going to look at a great way to create unique and interesting photo border effects by using other photos as displacement maps! Previously, we looked at how to create photo borders with masks and filters, which is an easy way to come up with interesting results simply by applying some of Photoshop's built-in filters to a layer mask. The downside to using that method though is that you're using the same filters every other Photoshop user has access to, which means you run the risk of creating the exact same border effects everyone else is creating. That may or may not be an issue for you, but the method we're going to look at here completely avoids that problem because it uses your own photos to create the effect, and since presumably you're the one who took your photos, you can use them to create photo borders that are as unique as you are!
