The plasma effect is a computer-based visual effect often animated in real time. This technique uses cycles of changing colors warped in various ways to give the illusion of hot gas or liquid organic movement. This type of effect was heavily used in the early nineties, especially in fractal-based software.

This page combines the clouds filter and the random cycling of solid colors to resemble a typical plasma effect. The plasma pattern is displayed on the surface of your chosen typeface. Additional text styles such as stroked border, drop shadow, and plasma opacity are supported. The rendered text can be placed on either a plain color or another background pattern. With many combinations of font choices, pattern or gradient backgrounds, this single effect is very flexible to give your design unlimited potential.

What gives the text its three- dimensional depth appearance is the careful placement of the drop shadow. Here you can choose the drop shadow color, size, and distance from its source object to simulate the location of the light source. The larger the drop shadow size, the blurrier its appearance is.
1. Enter your text to render
(up to 24 characters)

2. Font size
(default 70 pixels)

3. Typeface: Arial Black

4. Padding
(default 20 pixels)

5. Random seed.
Click following button for a random seed.

6. Turbulence
(Default 120). Enter a value to indicate the turbulence factor. A larger value creates more random sequences of color in the plasma pattern. A lower value creates a gradual blend of primary colors similar to the effect of linear gradient.

Click to generate the plasma text with your current choic of parameters in a separate window.

The following illustration shows a short text string in one of the plasma color pattern. The plasma text effect engine behind this page can produce a text pattern on a plain color background, or plain color text on a background pattern, or both.

Please be aware that this is a preview window to give you a quick idea of what the final image would look like. Certain parameters may not be present in the preview screen such as the typeface and font size. Click the eyedropper tool below to choose your appropriate background color or pattern.
